Infrared Roof Moisture Survey

Routine infrared flat roof moisture surveys are the ideal tool for detecting moisture intrusion early, before more severe issues are encountered. IR surveys allow building owners and operators to make better-informed decisions when considering roof repairs or replacement to minimize cost and maximize serviceable life of the roof.

How Infrared Roof Scans Work
Infrared flat roof moisture surveys are performed to detect and document moisture location within a roofing system. IR surveys utilize thermal imaging equipment capable of detecting evidence of latent moisture resulting from changes in thermal conductivity and/or thermal capacitance of the roofing system. In other words, dry roof insulation heats up and cools down faster than wet insulation and a thermal imager can detect the thermal difference.

Required Conditions
Infrared Surveys require certain conditions for optimal thermal imaging results. IR Surveys are typically performed at night following a clear, sunny day with relatively low winds. The roof surface should be dry and clear of debris.

Benefits
Infrared Surveys are useful to verify existing roof conditions,  preventative maintenance, and to quantify the area of roof to be replaced.
